This is great! I was just about giving up the struggle with my characters eyes when I came by the idea of looking up stuff on Da and when I found this I tried it out and I love the result, really you saved my day!
Any brush works, really. Pick the one you're comfortable using. Different brushes also have an effect on the style you wish to achieve, but that's more about experimenting. I use a tablet so my choice always is the hard opacity sensitive brush. If you don't have one, a low opacity normal brush works as a great alterative.

I tried to use it while making a cat eye, but now it looks as though it's a combonation of both The fur around it's taking a while, but I took a peek at your fur tutorial and found soem tips. I couldn't get it to look as real as yours, but I got some great shading tip like I used a blue color for some shading.
